Ubisoft CEO Asks Employees for Help Turning Company Around

Yves Guillemot urged developers to be faster and more cost-conscious

Last Wednesday (11), the Ubisoft revealed that, thanks to an unfriendly business environment and lower-than-expected sales, was forced to cancel several titles and cut its budget for new projects. The situation caused the company’s shares to witness a major devaluation, again fueling rumors that it is open to a takeover.

While publicly the CEO attributed the problems to factors beyond the control of the company, internally the story was different. In an email obtained by Kotaku, Yves Guillemot attributes the company issues and release delays to the way employees are working.

Today, more than ever, I need your energy and full commitment to ensure we get back on track.”, wrote Guillemot. “I’m also asking each of you to be especially careful and strategic with your spending and initiatives to ensure we’re being as efficient and lean as possible.”.

Ubisoft prepares several releases

The CEO of Ubisoft also wrote that needs help delivering the biggest stream of launches in the company’s history, without going into detail about them. “The ball is in your court to deliver this line on time and at the expected level of quality, showing everyone what we are capable of achieving”, wrote the executive.

According to ReedPop analyst Christopher Dring, the problems facing the company are not related to its structure or its talent. For him, the French developer fails for not having in its catalog any game as a service capable of sustaining your long-term operationsciting series like FIFA, Call of Duty and Fortnite as an example of this.

This means that Ubisoft is very dependent on a good release schedule to encourage its performance. I believe what she is trying to do with Assassin’s Creed is the right move.”, said Dring to the VGC website. THE Ubisoft also faces competition problems with other studios, which in recent years co-opted many of its most talented professionals with more attractive salary offers and working conditions.
