Uber drivers will be able to deliver home purchases and Uber Eats will include convenience stores – Observer

With the state of emergency enacted in Portugal, Uber decided to adopt a set of measures to face this context, both for drivers and for users. There are two new features: TVDE drivers (transportation in uncharacterized light passenger vehicles) will now be able to deliver home purchases and Uber Eats will soon allow access to convenience products.

The “Uber Drop-Off” will allow TVDE drivers and operators to “help large retailers and small merchants to deliver their products to the homes of the Portuguese,” says Manuel Pina, general manager of Uber in Portugal, quoted in a statement. This new solution will then allow drivers to also deliver at home, in this case, retailers and consumer goods companies.

We work every day to support our community of users and drivers during this difficult time. From now on, we open our application to help large retailers and small traders to deliver their products to the Portuguese home, as well as to help drivers and partners to overcome this phase that the country is going through ”, says Manuel Pina.

In addition to this solution, Uber Eats is also working to give users access to convenience products through the application. Joining this measure, and to facilitate “the treasury management of the more than 3000 partner restaurants”, it is provision of the option of daily transfer of amounts billed through the application of Uber Eats, instead of the normal cadence once a week. “Soon, we will also make the daily transfer option available to our delivery partners,” says Uber.

Account access and activation fees for all restaurants that join the application until April 3 (during the state of emergency) have also been removed, as well as the delivery fee on all orders – using the TAXAGRATIS code.

We believe that, with this measure, fully supported by Uber, we are making home delivery even more accessible for the Portuguese and, with this increase in demand, supporting all restaurants that continue to use the application to compensate for the closure of their physical spaces, as well as promoting an increase in the performance of delivery partners ”, says Uber in a statement.

These measures are in addition to the security measures that the company had already determined for both Uber and Uber Eats: meals are delivered without any contact; the front seat of the vehicles cannot be occupied; the restriction on the capacity of TVDE cars and the refund of up to 25 euros to each delivery partner for the purchase of all sanitary products, upon presentation of a receipt.
