Slovak hockey players under the age of 20 will enter the world championship (August 9-20) with a match against the Czech Republic. They will start the opening duel on Tuesday, August 9 at 20.00 CEST (12.00 local time) in Edmonton, which will be the only venue of the tournament. In the A-group, they will also play against the home Canada, Latvia and Finland.

The World Under-20 Championship in August is a substitute for the World Cup at the turn of 2021 and 2022, which started, but after four days the organizers ended prematurely due to too many positive tests on Covid-19.

The Slovaks played matches against the USA (2: 3) and Sweden (0: 3) at the prematurely ended championship, but they will start again at the August tournament. In the meantime, the composition of the basic groups has changed as the International Hockey Federation (IIHF) eliminates Russia due to the war in Ukraine and Latvia has joined the elite category. The Slovaks were to start the tournament in the original term not only against the USA and Sweden, but also against Switzerland, but the new tournament awarded them opponents from the second branch.

The hockeyslovakia.sk website informed that the Slovak junior representatives will start the final preparations for the World Championships on July 18 in Poprad.
