U19 DFB Cup: West derby in round one – tough draws for RWE and BVB

The first round of the DFB Junior Cup 2022/2023 has been drawn. The U19 selections from Borussia Dortmund and Rot-Weiss Essen caught tough draws.

The pairings for the first round of the DFB Cup for U-19 juniors 2022/2023 have been decided. On Monday, “Losfee” Gunther Metz, assistant coach of the U19 juniors, drew the 16 games of the first round on the DFB campus in Frankfurt under the supervision of draw manager Holger Bellinghoff, chairman of the DFB youth committee.

Borussia Dortmund has to play at FC Energie Cottbus, last year’s second in the north/northeast season 2021/2022. Rot-Weiss Essen welcomes 1. FC Köln, who finished fifth in the West squad last season. FC Schalke 04’s U19s are up against JFG Schaumberg/Prims (A-Junioren Regionalliga Sündwest). MSV Duisburg and VfL Bochum meet in round one of the west derby.

The field of participants is made up of 13 amateur teams, which qualified by winning their respective national cup, and 19 licensed teams (eight national cup winners, the defending champion, the German champion and the three best-placed teams from all three seasons). Two pots were drawn, with the amateur team having home advantage in every game. The framework game date for the first round is on Sunday, September 11 (from 11 a.m.).
