U.S. Navy 250th Birthday Celebration at The American Village

American Village to Celebrate 250 Years of the U.S. Navy

MONTEVALLO – The American Village will ​host ‌a festivity honoring the‌ 250th birthday ‍of⁤ the United States Navy on Monday, October 13th,‌ from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The⁤ event ‍will take place in front of the Colonial​ Courthouse.

The celebration will feature remarks⁢ from ​Rear Admiral Jack Natter,U.S. Navy (ret.), and a ceremonial cake-cutting, a long-standing naval tradition ​performed by the oldest and youngest sailors ⁢present. Cake will also⁣ be shared wiht visitors.

Organizers⁣ highlight the Navy’s anniversary as a notable milestone as the nation approaches its own 250th birthday in 2026. “The ‍U.S. Navy’s story is the story‌ of our nation’s defense and independence,” they stated. “It began in 1775-just months before⁤ the Declaration ‍of Independence-and​ continues today as ​a pillar of American ⁢strength.”

following the⁣ ceremony, guests⁤ are encouraged to⁣ explore the American Village’s historic campus,⁤ participate ⁣in ⁤themed activities, and visit ⁢the⁣ National Veterans Shrine, which showcases the experiences ‌of American veterans ​through⁢ exhibits.Costumed interpreters will ⁢also ⁤be​ available to share stories from the founding era.

This ⁤year’s Navy birthday falls on the same‍ day as Columbus Day and Indigenous ⁢Peoples’ Day, ⁢providing an opportunity for reflection on the complexities of American history.‌ The American Village ⁣embraces these ⁣observances as chances⁢ to explore the past “with honesty ⁣and ‌gratitude.”
