U-17 Asian Cup qualification standings: Indonesia overtook Malaysia

Indonesian National U-17 managed to beat Palestine 2-0 in the 2023 Asian Cup qualifiers U-17, Friday (7/10). This victory led Indonesia to evict Malaysia from the top of the Group B rankings.

Garuda Asia took the lead in the ninth minute thanks to an own goal by Palestinian defender Ibrahim Alfuqaha. Instead of sweeping the ball from Habil Abdilah’s cross into the penalty area, the ball went into his own goal.

In the second half, Indonesia managed to expand their lead in the 50th minute with a long-range shot by Habi Abdilah.

Habil fired a side kick that looked like it was for a pass. But his shot just flowed more heavily and he headed to the top corner of the Palestinian door to enter.

The victory over Palestine brought Indonesia back to the top of the Group B standings with a collection of nine points. While the second position is occupied by Malaysia which contains seven points.

Malaysia opened the opportunity to clinch group position after successfully defeating the United Arab Emirates 2-1. The United Arab Emirates are confirmed eliminated with the acquisition of six points.

Then, Guam and Palestine were also confirmed eliminated after suffering three consecutive defeats. The two are respectively in fourth and fifth place.

Indonesia will face group winners against Malaysia in the final Group B match at Pakansari Stadium, Cibinong, Bogor on Sunday (9/10).

Garuda Asia just needs a draw to block the automatic ticket to qualify for next year’s U-17 Asian Cup finals.
