Former professional heavyweight world champion Mike Tyson will return to the ring after months of speculation. The 54-year-old boxer announced today that he will face an exhibition duel with 51-year-old Roy Jones in Los Angeles on September 12.
“It’s just going to be incredible,” Tyson said. The duel will be announced for eight rounds and broadcast on the social network Triller. The opponent will be watched by a team of cameramen in preparation for the duel, and a ten-part documentary should be created from the collected material.
Tyson became the youngest world heavyweight champion in history in 1986 at the age of twenty, and last fought on June 11, 2005. After defeating Irish Kevin McBrid, he announced the end of his career. In recent months, he has supported speculation about a short-term return to the ring with published training videos.
Jones, 51, who owned a record seven World Champion Belts during his career, last boxed in 2018.
