Utah Governor Reveals Suspect in Charlie Kirk Shooting Lived with Transgender Partner
Following the shooting of conservative influencer charlie Kirk in Utah, Governor Spencer Cox revealed that the alleged shooter, Tyler Robinson, lived with a transgender woman. Cox confirmed the relationship on CNN’s “State of the Union,” stating the partner was a man transitioning to a woman and was in a romantic relationship with Robinson.
“This partner was extremely cooperative, had no idea that this was done and is currently working with the investigators,” Cox added.
Robinson, 22, is accused of shooting Kirk, a prominent ally of former President Donald Trump, at a university event on Wednesday.Cox noted in a separate appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that Robinson has been uncooperative with investigators.
the governor also indicated that Robinson spent significant time online in what he described as “dark places” and engaged heavily with gaming. When asked about the potential role of social media in the shooting, Cox stated, “I believe that social media have played a direct role in every single attack and attempted assassination that we have seen in the past five or six years.”
the revelation of Robinson’s relationship sparked outrage among some right-wing figures. Conspiracy theorist Laura Loomer questioned whether a “trans-terrorist cell” had manipulated Robinson and called for the “trans movement” to be labeled a terrorist movement.
Kirk himself has a history of making inflammatory statements against the LGBTQ+ community, particularly transgender individuals, once stating that transgender identity was “against our senses, against the natural law and…a pulsating middle finger to God.”
Kirk is known for his conservative advocacy, frequently promoting right-wing viewpoints on issues like gun ownership, abortion, and immigration. He was answering audience questions about transgender issues and gun control when he was shot.
Initially, Governor Cox told the Wall Street Journal that investigators believed Robinson had been “indoctrinated with left-wing ideology.” He did not reiterate this claim on Sunday, but stated that details about Robinson’s dislike of Kirk and potential motivations had been relayed to investigators by his family and friends.
