tyler Herro Confident Contract Extension with Miami Heat Will Be Reached
Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro expressed optimism about reaching a contract extension with the team, stating he “expects too get something done” and emphasizing the importance of a “respectable number.” Herro’s comments, made September 30, 2025, signal his desire to remain in Miami long-term, but also indicate a firm understanding of his value.
The negotiations come as Herro enters a crucial offseason following a strong 2023-2024 campaign where he lead the Heat in scoring (23.9 points per game) and assists (5.5 per game). With Jimmy Butler recently traded to the Golden State Warriors, Herro’s role as a potential franchise cornerstone has become even more critically important, potentially increasing the financial stakes for both sides. The Heat have until October 20 to finalize an extension before the start of the new NBA season.
“I’m not going to lose my joy… it’s not that important to me,” Herro said, downplaying the stress of negotiations. “Being here is important but being here at a respectable number. I have a number in mind as I did on last contract.” he further clarified that the situation is about more than just a reported $50 million per season figure, stating, “It is indeed more about respect than anything else.”
Drafted 13th overall in 2019, Herro has consistently exceeded expectations for the Heat, earning the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year award in 2022 and an All-Star selection in february. He closed the 2023-2024 season strong, averaging 27.4 points over the final 10 games to help secure the Heat’s Play-In Tournament berth.
The Heat, three-time NBA champions (2006, 2012, 2013), face a deadline to secure Herro’s future and potentially build their team around the rising star.
