A local suspected of offering games of chance and illegal betting was searched by Bern police on Friday evening in Lyss. Tens of thousands of francs and gold were seized.

Bern police raided Lyss (BE) on Friday evening a local suspected of offering games of chance and illegal betting. Nearly 40 people were checked and two women arrested.

Several electronic devices, a gaming machine as well as a few tens of thousands of francs and gold were seized, said on Saturday the Bernese cantonal police and the regional public prosecutor Jura bernois-Seeland in a press release.

The two women arrested are between 30 and 41 years old. They are suspected of having exercised without authorization in the premises and will be denounced for violation of the law on foreigners and integration.

Further investigations of the premises operators are underway. This police raid in Lyss is the result of a large preliminary investigation into suspicions of prohibited games of chance and betting. The police have already intervened on multiple occasions in Lyss for similar cases: in 2018, in 2016 and 2015. (nxp / ats)
