Lars Hermsdorfer and Mark Oedinghofen, on the other hand, did not have a good race in the final and ended up crossing the finish line in fifth place. “We are not satisfied at all. The worm was in there right after the start phase. We weren’t able to build on the good race in the prelims,” said Hermsdorfer, visibly disappointed.

With a lot of bad luck, a very strong lead was drawn in the lightweight foursome. Even before the race it was clear that only two of the three favorite boats would reach the final. One had to be eliminated. This fate befell the team around Krefeld’s Mark Oedinghofen. “It’s very, very bitter. In a time comparison, we would have won the other two heats by more than two boat lengths. And now we’re out. We could have won a medal here,” said Oedinghofen dejectedly after landing. But there was still a chance for Oedinghofen. There were no heats in the men’s eight, so the club eight of the CRC and also the racing community around Oedinghofen were directly set for the final. At the end of the German Championship, the teams made up of several clubs prevailed over the CRC club team. In the end, Oedinghofen won the long-awaited medal: bronze. Coach Markus Wöstemeyer summed it up: “It’s really difficult to survive here with pure club teams. We won two of our three medals as racing communities. The performance in the mixed fours is all the higher.”
