BEIJING, May 21 (Xinhua) – Traditional Chinese medicine has convinced and impressed many COVID-19 pneumonia patients and their families with its therapeutic efficacy, a Chinese national political adviser said Thursday.
Wang Jie, chief researcher at the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, made these remarks prior to the opening of the third session of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, the country’s top political advisory body.
Traditional Chinese medicine specialists have provided personalized diagnosis, prescription and treatment for COVID-19 patients, he said.
During the battle against the epidemic, doctors have reflected on the legacy and innovation of traditional Chinese medicine, Wang said.
“China has a long history of fighting epidemics,” said the specialist, adding that more than 350 epidemic outbreaks have occurred in the country since the Western Han dynasty (206 BC-25 AD).
“With a strong heritage and constant innovation, we believe that traditional Chinese medicine will continue to play an important role in life-saving clinical treatment,” said Wang.
