Two people killed, two injured and five rescued in a fire last day | The news


Riga, June 29, LETA. Last day, 25 fires were extinguished in Latvia and two people died, two were injured and five were rescued, according to statistics compiled by the State Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS).

Yesterday, rescuers rushed to a call in Daugavpils, where a fire had broken out in a residential house. Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters found that the first floor of a two-storey wooden building of 80 square meters was burning with an open flame and a strong smoke had formed. Two people died in the fire.

One person was rescued from the second floor of the building, but one person was injured trying to enter the burning building before the SFRS arrived.

Also, yesterday, shortly before midnight, rescuers rushed to a call in Riga, where the room and loggia of the upper floor apartment in a five-storey residential building were burning. A man was rescued from the smoked apartment who had suffered while trying to put out the fire on his own.

On Sunday, a microwave burned in an apartment in Riga. Two people, one of whom was injured, were rescued from the smoky room.

On Sunday, an invitation was received to Daugavpils, where household items burned in the apartment of a multi-storey house. One victim was rescued from the smoked apartment.

A total of nine fires were extinguished in Riga, four in other cities and 12 in counties.

During the day, SFRS employees performed 39 rescue operations and received 15 misleading calls.

Since the beginning of the year, 4316 fires have been extinguished in Latvia, of which 1379 were cases of burning, 137 people were injured in fires, 167 were rescued, and 46 died, including one minor, according to SFRS statistics.
