Two Omikron cases confirmed in Switzerland

In the past few days, infections with the new Coronavirus variant Omikron, classified as particularly dangerous, had been reported from more and more countries. The World Health Organization (WHO) classified the variant as “worrying” on Friday due to its large number of spike mutations. Omikron was first detected in South Africa.

From now in 23 countries, all persons have to present a negative Covid-19 test when boarding an airplane and when entering Switzerland and have to go into quarantine for 10 days. The quarantine also applies to those who have recovered and who have been vaccinated.

The German vaccine developer Biontech has started developing a vaccine against the Omikron variant. And the US vaccine developer Moderna is also working on an improved version of its vaccine.
