The Strasbourg Eurometropolis holds its flight plan on mobility. The roadmap adopted last July was approved this Friday at its assembly. This is the “priority, major theme”, the new executive recalled Pia Imbs, its president. The next four years should therefore see a lot of changes in the transport offer even if “everything will be subject to consultation in 2021” promised concerned elected officials the 2nd Vice-President of the Eurometropolis, Danielle Dambach.

Transport on demand

One of the most advanced projects concerns transport on demand with the order of 49 electric buses. A device that will be extended to the second crown. As of March 1, 2021, all 33 municipalities will be able to use it.

Tramway

In the pipes, the long-awaited “Schiltigheim tram” to Bischheim but also a tram to Wacken. This will link Strasbourg station to the European institutions and its new Archipel district. This line should make it possible to loosen the saturated knot of the Iron Man bypassing the city center even if the exact route is not yet defined. It would pass through the multimodal hub at Place de Haguenau, where it would meet the line to Schiltigheim. As to how this multimodal hub will be linked to the city center, nothing has yet been defined.

The extension of the west tram to Wolfisheim is part of the projects to be carried out by 2025. After a first section recently inaugurated, the rest will probably be in two phases with a first section as far as Potteries.

Bus

Line G of the high-level service bus (BHNS) which currently connects the European company area of Schiltigheim to Strasbourg station should be extended to the Etoile park and to the Danube bridge. Bus line 50 will be reinforced with an express line (L50).

Train

Consultations are underway with the region and the department of Bas-Rhin for the train. The metropolitan express network should be in place from 2023. Service should increase from 50% to 100% depending on the station. The time slots will be extended, and associated with the improvement of intermodal systems at eight stations in the Eurometropolis.

Routes

Lanes probably reserved for buses and carpooling on the A35 and A351 (which will be decommissioned after the transfer from the State of the roads not granted on January 1) will be put in place.

Bike

The Eurometropolis cycling network should be tripled with a budget of 70 million euros. The ambition is to reduce discontinuities and make travel safer.

“This is a major step in the transformation of the agglomeration”, judges the vice-president of transport Alain Jund. This “new trajectory” has four objectives: respond to the climate emergency, “change the era to change air quality”, have investments for the future that create jobs and help the local economy, and finally “achieve territorial equity between the municipalities” of the Strasbourg agglomeration.
