In Ottawa, the grim death toll from COVID-19 stands at 439 on Thursday. Ottawa Public Health (OPH) is also reporting 62 new cases of the virus in its territory, the largest increase this week.

Since last spring, COVID-19 has infected 14,532 people in the federal capital.

Active cases are also on the rise on Thursday. SPO is currently monitoring 457 active cases in its territory. This is 11 more cases than Wednesday.

Hospitalizations, however, remained stable. Currently, 21 patients are fighting COVID-19 at an Ottawa hospital, eight of whom are in intensive care.

In the Outaouais, public health recorded an increase of 21 new cases on Thursday. Since the start of the pandemic, 6,230 people have been infected with COVID-19.

However, the death toll has remained stable in the region. So far, 159 people have lost their lives due to the virus in the Outaouais.

Four patients are hospitalized in the COVID-19 unit of the Hull Hospital.

The Integrated Health and Social Services Center (cISS) of the Outaouais is monitoring 155 active cases in the territory, an increase of 11 cases compared to Wednesday’s update.

The cISS de l’Outaouais said Thursday that the situation in CHSLDLionel-Émond of Gatineau, struck by an outbreak last weekend, was stable.

Variants: two cases under investigation in eastern Ontario

In eastern Ontario, public health has indicated that it is awaiting analysis results for two suspected cases of variants, recently detected in the territory.

The Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU) is expected to issue a statement with more details on Friday.

Regional health authorities reported 10 new cases of COVID-19 in eastern Ontario on Thursday. A total of 2,769 people have so far contracted the virus in the region.

The death toll, however, remained stable, with a death toll of 67.

The BSEO continues to monitor 108 active cases, while five patients are hospitalized.

The medical officer of BSEODr. Paul Roumeliotis has hinted that he does not expect a relaxation of health measures from the provincial government. The latter is to take stock of the pandemic situation in Ontario on Friday.

I think we will stay in the orange zone for another week, but we will have an announcement from the government by tomorrow. So far, we have not had a call from the Minister to tell us that we were going to change zones. In my opinion, we should stay in the orange zone for at least another week, especially with the threat we have with the variants of the virus., said Dr Roumeliotis at a press briefing on Thursday afternoon.
