Two more men arrested for riots on Coolsingel | Inland

The 30-year-old man from Krimpen aan den IJssel is suspected of public violence. For example, the images show that he threw stones and a can of beer at police vans and hit the windows. He will remain in jail for three days.

The other man is from Schiedam. Police received many tips when his photo was released. This allowed the detective team to determine his identity. Among other things, he is responsible for throwing rubbish bins on the street.

Dna-match

Police also arrested two men on Friday. Detectives reached a 30-year-old man, with no fixed place of residence, through DNA traces that were found on one of the destroyed police vehicles. He is suspected of public assault.

The second arrest on Friday concerns a 44-year-old man. He turned himself in after the photos were released and was immediately arrested. He is due to appear in court on Wednesday, police said.

Blured

The police say that an investigation team has selected the images of the suspects from thousands of hours of footage. The police first looked at them internally, so that local police officers and police employees had the opportunity to recognize people. One of them is blurred in the picture, as he is still a minor. Images of more rioters will soon be released and there may also be better shots of the suspects already shown.

Police have already received more than 30 tips.

“Rooters who know they were there, but have not yet been shown, can prevent publication by reporting themselves to the police,” the police said. “This way, family, friends and the employer do not have to see what they have been involved in.” Anyone who knows who was involved are also asked to report this to the police.

Five months in jail

After a demonstration against the corona policy, disturbances broke out on and around Coolsingel, in which police officers, police cars, scooters, shops and an apartment building had to suffer. So far 49 suspects have been arrested. Last week, the first rioters were tried in Rotterdam during a super-fast court hearing. A 26-year-old woman from Spijkenisse and a 29-year-old man from Rotterdam were sentenced to five months in prison, two of which were conditional, for throwing stones at an riot police van and police cars.
