Two other elderly people who had been infected with the Corona virus died in Darmstadt. According to the health authority, the dead are a 94-year-old woman from Aliceheim and a 93-year-old man who succumbed to the disease at home. Both had severe previous illnesses. The number of corona deaths in Darmstadt has increased to nine, seven of which were residents of old people’s homes. The number of confirmed infections remained constant at 186 cases. 112 people have already recovered.

The city’s Corona crisis team dealt again with the situation in the old people’s and nursing homes on Monday. In the particularly affected facility in St. Josef, the situation eased somewhat after the separation of positively tested residents and the quarantine for affected employees.

Suspected corona cases increased

The increased number of corona infections in homes has so far not affected the number of patients in the clinic and in the Elisabethenstift. The spokeswoman for the clinic, Eva Bredow-Cordier, announced on request. The number of Covid 19 patients in both houses was stable. The same applies to the Alicehospital and the children’s clinics. In the Corona crisis, the hospital controls patient care in southern Hesse.

Bredow-Cordier explained that a maximum of twelve Covid 19 patients have been treated and on ventilators at the same time in the hospital’s intensive care unit. Up to eight patients would be treated in the isolation ward. However, the number of suspected cases of Covid has increased. The clinic records such cases in a tent in front of the entrance in order to separate them from other patients. There was no further information on the number of patients in the Elisabethenstift.

According to spokesman Manfred Fleck, the number of Covid19 patients in the Alicehospital has been at a low single-digit level for three weeks. Currently, twelve beds in the normal ward would be kept free for corona sufferers. So far, there have only been suspected cases in the children’s clinics that have not been confirmed.

The crisis team, meanwhile, appealed to patients with serious illnesses such as cancer, never to wait for urgently needed treatments for fear of a corona infection.
