Two more arrests for open violence at Minister Van der Wal’s home | NOW

The police arrested two more men on Saturday who are suspected of open violence at the home of Minister Christianne van der Wal (Nature and Nitrogen) on Tuesday evening. It concerns men aged 26 and 30, both from Nunspeet in Gelderland. Earlier, a 23-year-old man from Bathmen and a 46-year-old man from Holten reported.

The men who were arrested on Saturday have come forward after the police had previously distributed – now unrecognizable – images of a number of suspects of farmers’ protests. The pair are also suspected of stealing a camera that was parked by the road.

The police plan to put images of rioters online next week if they do not come forward. Seven people have not yet done so.

On Tuesday evening, demonstrations by farmers in various parts of the country spiraled out of control and led to violence. At Van der Wal’s house, protesting farmers broke through a police barrier. According to the Gelderland police, it was so unsafe that officers had to choose their own safety, so they did not intervene immediately.

The action “clearly crossed boundaries”, the police said on Twitter after the incident. “A police car was destroyed and a slurry tank emptied. The situation was threatening and unacceptable, also towards emergency personnel.”

“This is desperation in its purest form,” a Farmers Defense Force (FDF) spokesman said of the angry protesters. She called the demonstrations the result of government policy. “After the people who have to deal with the damage caused by gas extraction and the allowance scandal, farmers are the next group to fall victim to this cabinet.”

Actions by farmers in the Netherlands are planned again for next Monday. That day they want to shut down the Netherlands, farmers’ organizations have announced. Distribution centers and Schiphol, among others, are the target. Blockades around Schiphol will not be tolerated, said the mayor of Haarlemmermeer, where the airport is located. earlier† The Marechaussee and the army are standing by.
