“A record number of poetry books have been nominated for the Ojārs Vācietis Literary Prize in poetry this year – 20. And all of them were interesting to read, because these poetry collections reflect both the evidence of our time and what we are, the current situation and worldview, and also all our individual and common feelings, living in this time, “the works submitted this year are described by Carnikava County Council Chairman Daiga Mieriņa.

Nine publishers and book publishers have submitted 20 collections of poems this year, and for the first time in the poetry of the Ojārs Vācietis Prize, the commission has awarded two poetry collections an equally high number of points, therefore a cash prize of 1,000 euros was awarded to two poets. This year, the Ojārs German Evaluation Commission consisted of the following members: Daiga Mieriņa, Chairman of Carnikava County Council, Elita Terentjeva and Gundris Kravalis, representatives of Carnikava County Society, Ieva Ķīse, Director of Ojārs Vācietis Museum and member of Ojārs Vācietis Association and 2008 winner of this award Ronalds Briedis.

One of this year’s laureates, the poet Inga Pizāne says: “Life is like this so that we can transform it,” said Ojārs Vācietis, and I agree with him. And, in my opinion, poetry is exactly what helps to notice change – both in itself, Even if poetry is not what changes the world, it certainly helps to become more attentive and move the world forward – to make it warmer, more poetic, and in some ways both more fragile and bolder, because poetry reveals not only about us its, perhaps, the most beautiful, but also its weaknesses, and in view of this, it helps us to live a better life. “
Laureate Jānis Hvoinskis: “It is a great pleasure to receive the award at this interesting time. We have to thank the editor Kārlis Vērdiņš, who took this work and directed me to the” Neputna “editorial office and thank the” Neputna “editorial office. The biggest thanks are to Carnikava City Council for presenting this award. to me, chose me – a surprise to myself. And, thank you also for maintaining this award dedicated to the memory of Ojārs Vācietis for years. “

Ieva Ķīse, the director of the Ojārs Vācietis Museum and the Ojārs Vācietis Society, as well as the long-term member of the Ojārs Vācietis Prize Poetry Commission, says: “Ojārs Vācietis said:” Time called me! ” In the last years of his life, he realized that no matter how hard he tried, it was not in his power to make his time better, and he realized that the only thing he could do was talk to the people of his time in poetry and hope that these people would make the time better together. This year’s poetry award nominees also seem to appeal to readers in this way. Poetry is very rich, thank you to the authors for that! “
