Two investigations opened after the fatal accident of Tiarei

Tahiti, January 17, 2022 – After the discovery of a lifeless body on January 8 on the side of the road in Tiarei, the prosecution opened two preliminary investigations. The first, for “theft”, targets the two men who had recovered the scooter shortly after the accident. The second, for “robbery with violence”, concerns a man with whom the victim had fought shortly before the tragedy. The fight having been filmed by a telephone. Nevertheless, the autopsy did confirm that the accident was the sole cause of death.

The case, which had aroused many reactions on the web, finally cleared up. After the inanimate body of a helmeted man, without a vehicle by his side, was discovered in the associated commune of Tiarei in Hitia’a o te Ra on January 8, the gendarmes had launched an appeal for witnesses to identify the individual. The day after the tragedy, the companion of the latter had presented himself to the gendarmerie. Two men, who had taken the scooter without seeing its accident driver on the side of the road, had also presented themselves to the police during the weekend, explaining that they intended to resell the still valid parts of the two wheels.

A few days after the tragedy, our colleagues from TNTV reported that shortly before the fatal accident, the victim had fought with another man. A fight that had been filmed. And a video to which the investigators of the Faa’a Research Brigade, in charge of the file, had access. The investigations carried out by the gendarmes have indeed made it possible to establish that shortly before his accident, the victim had indeed fought with an individual who had stolen his bag. Victim who had ended up hitting the road before losing his life a few minutes later in his accident.

The thesis of the fatal accident confirmed

If a preliminary investigation was opened for “theft with violence” against the man who had hit the victim and had stolen his bag, the autopsy of the latter formally established that she was dead aftermath of his accident. The technical findings made on his two-wheelers also showed that the machine had not been hit by another vehicle.

In addition to this first preliminary investigation, the Papeete prosecutor’s office opened a second for theft in a meeting. It aims this time the two men who had taken the two-wheeler.
