two individuals arrested for attempting to sell a monkey

The little animal was recovered on Sunday evening in the 3rd arrondissement.

The police had been alerted by the Lyon SPA following an announcement spotted on the darknet concerning the sale of a white shrub marmoset, a protected species, the price of which amounted to 4,000 euros.

Police intervention allowed the monkey to be recovered in an apartment located on rue de l’Abondance. The latter was taken care of by the SPA of Lyon then by the teams of the zoo of Saint-Martin-la-Plaine in the Loire.

Two people aged 24 and 25 were arrested during the operation by police who had previously attended the scene. They were taken into custody where one of them admitted the marmoset’s detention while the other denied his involvement.

The two suspects were released, subject to referral to a possible subsequent summons, pending the continuation of the investigation. The first elements would have made it possible to highlight that the monkey came from Latin America and had been imported for the purpose of breeding it.
