two fires targeting a telecoms company claimed

Two recent fires targeting telecoms installations in Isère were claimed Tuesday on a website close to the ultra-left libertarian, customary to the demand for similar acts near Grenoble. During the night of February 17 to 18, as well as that of February 19 to 20, the Constructel company, which installs fiber optic networks, was targeted by fires on two of its sites in Isère.

The Grenoble public prosecutor announced on Saturday the junction of the two investigations, entrusted to the gendarmerie. The first fire, in the town of Brézins, affected four vehicles and rolls of optical fiber. The second, in Sassenage, near Grenoble, hit a relay antenna, stocks of cables and a nacelle vehicle, according to the Dauphiné Liberated, who noted Tuesday the claim of these acts. The authors of this text, published on the Indymedia site already used for claims of similar acts, refer to themselves as «des lycanthropes» (werewolves) and call for “War on the techno-industrial system”.

“If, for us, attacking installers, repairers or cable suppliers makes sense, it is not to protest against 5G in particular but in a broader context, to fight against technology. world”, can we read. “We cannot remain spectators in the face of this mega-machine which is spreading everywhere looting, destroying, measuring and controlling everything that lives”, continue the anonymous authors. The day before the first fire in Isère, two deliberate fires in quick succession damaged the premises of the operator Orange in neighboring Drôme, affecting thousands of internet and telephony users.

“We want to salute all the arsonists who act in the shadows at the moment and deal repeated blows to this technological hell”, notes the text of the claim published on Tuesday. This one and the actions that it claims, are placed in the line of similar actions of a movement close to anarchism and targeting telecommunication infrastructures in the region of Grenoble for several years. Last May, another text with the same neo-Luddite (anti-technology) accents published on the same site had claimed the fire of a relay antenna in Isère, following other similar facts. The public prosecutor of Grenoble then had, “Taking into account local precedents,” reported the facts to the National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office, which did not take it up.
