Two doctors sound the alarm about the situation at the Auberge aux Trois Pignons | News | The sun

Whose fault is it?

One thing is certain, the CIUSSS de la Capitale-Nationale is aware of the situation at the Auberge aux Trois Pignons. On Tuesday, Dr. Cordeau’s colleague even spoke with senior managers to explain the facts. She made her requests and explained the “shocking events” she had witnessed.

“In the last week, we asked questions, we asked that things change. I even spoke with civil security. We felt that there were concerns and attentive listening. But nothing changed or it was insufficient, [samedi] the situation was still unacceptable, ”she said, still troubled by the difficult week she went through.

Another bell ringing loudly in the heads of the two doctors.

“Immediately after the residence was declared a source of outbreaks, there were wholesale resignations at the Auberge, which created a significant staff shortage from the start,” explains Dr. Cordeau.

Doctors sent in as reinforcements even find themselves managing administrative tasks, such as not having enough ink to print prescriptions for drugs.

“It is not normal to do the job of the owner of the place or the CIUSSS, I had to call him to get it sorted out. During that time, I don’t treat the patients, ”she adds.

They therefore launch several questions: what is happening with the managers of the residence, have the associated doctors even been called? Would there be too much administrative red tape at the CIUSSS?

Watch out for the second wave

Dr Cordeau and her colleague are especially worried about the next outbreak sites, for the second wave which is more and more feared.

“If we were at the start of the pandemic, it would be normal to be in a period of adjustments. But now, COVID has been in our lives for several months, it’s difficult to understand how we are so understaffed when we are supposed to be prepared. We had planned for the summer. What is happening? How is it that there are no additional people to fill the vacancies? ” insists Dr. Cordeau.

Yes, regular activities have resumed in hospitals, which occupies several employees from several areas who had availability a few months ago.

“This is not a good excuse. Have we let our guard down too quickly? We were ill prepared for this outbreak and if there had been another at the same time, patients would have had to be transferred massively to hospitals due to a lack of personnel, this is worrying, ”adds the anonymous colleague.

The resources, the two doctors believe that they exist, the CIUSSS de la Capitale-Nationale should be able to easily free them up to help patients who are most vulnerable.

“Certain situations could possibly lead to serious consequences, and this is troubling and unacceptable. I have a lot of difficulty understanding how we can have this speech today, several months after the start of the pandemic. I’m starting to have enough experience in hot areas to say that it doesn’t make good sense, ”concludes Dr. Cordeau.
