two crack traffickers arrested near the Aeolus garden

INFO THE FIGARO – Individuals provided “modous”, dealers, who in turn fed drug addicts.

Two crack traffickers were arrested near the Éole garden on Monday June 7, learned Le Figaro this Tuesday. These arrests come as drug trafficking in the north-east of Paris increasingly exasperates residents. As a reminder, crack users have been grouped together since mid-May in the Jardin d’Éole, on the border of the 18th and 19th arrondissements, which they usually frequent during the day before migrating to Stalingrad at night.

These arrests follow an anonymous information gathered by the 18th arrondissement police station at the end of April. The police were then informed of the presence of two individuals who were involved in drug trafficking in an apartment in rue Doudeauville (Paris 18th district).

A first surveillance of the police confirms the suspicions. The investigators noticed that one of the two occupants went daily to the Jardin d’Éole and to the level of Boulevard Ney, also in the 18th district, to provide the “modous”, a term which designates the sellers of crack in Wolof – the language la more spoken in Senegal. The individual in question supplies the crack dealers.

A discovery “kitchen”

During a new surveillance, Monday, June 7, the police surprise the same individual not far from the garden of Éole providing two modous resellers, who themselves offer the goods in the wake of three drug addicts. The police then arrested the six individuals. In particular, they discovered 71 crackers (8 grams) as well as 2,600 euros in cash on the individual who went back and forth between his apartment and the Aeolus garden. Once rue Doudeauville, investigators question the second occupant in possession of 2,200 euros in cash. On site, they discover a “kitchen” with all the equipment used for the manufacture and packaging of crack.

Aged in their thirties, the two traffickers claim to be from sub-Saharan Africa, but their nationality is uncertain. Several police custody – of traffickers, dealers and drug addicts – are still underway and suspects could be tried in immediate appearance in the coming days. As a reminder, three crack sellers – tried in immediate appearance – had been sentenced to prison terms by the Paris Criminal Court a few days ago.

In November 2020, the Paris prosecutor’s office and the police headquarters reaffirmed their mobilization against crack. The public prosecutor of Paris, Rémy Heitz, had notably explained that he wanted to conduct a “Determined penal policy in the face of a very precarious and very degraded population in terms of health combined with a health and therapeutic response”.
