JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV – Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey mocked Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s idea to turn Facebook into a metaverse by calling it a dystopia.
To note, the metaverse refers to a future version of the internet. That is when people no longer use the web via laptops or mobile phones to access the internet, but instead use virtual reality and augmented-reality devices to enter virtual spaces.
On Wednesday (20/10/2021), Jack Dorsey retweeted a tweet from a netizen who mentioned the origin of the term metaverse. Dorsey seemed to agree with the idea that the idea was a dystopia.

“The term metaverse was coined by Neal Stepehenson in the book ‘Snow Crash’ and it originally described the metaverse as a corporate-owned virtual world, where end users are treated like citizens in a dystopian corporate dictatorship. What if Neal is right?” tweet @udiWrtheimer account.
The Twitter boss then retweeted the tease and wrote “Narrator. He.”. The word ‘He’ may refer to Mark Zuckerberg.
Dystopia itself is a term that is defined as a very bad world condition, a society that is not affected, a place that is not good, and seems scary.
This term is the opposite of utopia which means an ideal world state without crime or poverty.
