The “economic miracle locomotive” of the Hammer Museum Railway will be presented to a nationwide audience in 2021. She plays a leading role in the television film “3½ hours”, which is dedicated to the construction of the wall 60 years ago.

Hamm / Görlitz – The V200 033 – its official name – pulls an interzonal train in the film on August 13, 1961 – the passengers have to decide whether they should get off or continue. The recordings with the Hammer V200 took place in Görlitz in September. In the film it becomes Bamberg. You can see the work on the anniversary 2021 on ARD.

The story: On August 13, 1961, the D151 interzonal train set off from Munich to Leipzig and Berlin. On the way, the passengers notice that the GDR is sealing the sector border in Berlin – the wall is being built. There are still three and a half hours to the inner-German border. The passengers have to decide whether they want to enter the GDR again without being able to go back. There is the staunch communist whose husband is disappointed with socialism – will they split up at the limit and tear the children apart? Will a young band trade their success in the East for an uncertain future in the West? Will the elderly couple from the GDR ever see their son again in Bavaria?

Last working locomotive of its kind

The V200 033 is considered the last operational locomotive of its kind in Germany. Built in 1956, it pulled fast passenger trains through Germany.

One of the most important locations for V200 locomotives was Hamm. The locomotive is considered to be one of the epitome of the economic miracle; That should be the reason that the ARD film subsidiary Degeto hired them for the shooting.

On the museum railway, the V200 033 is often used for special trips and thus generates a significant part of the club’s budget.
