“There is absolutely no discussion”: Poland‘s Tusk Vows to Shoot Down Threatening Flight Objects
Poland will respond wiht force to any further violations of its airspace,Prime Minister Donald Tusk declared today, stating a clear readiness to authorize the shooting down of flight objects that penetrate Polish territory and pose a threat. Tusk made the remarks at a press conference in sierakowice, Polish media reported, emphasizing the government’s firm stance against escalating provocations.
Tusk acknowledged a more cautious approach woudl be necessary in less clear-cut situations, requiring careful consideration to avoid a serious escalation of the conflict. He referenced a recent incident on Friday involving two Russian fighter jets approaching a Polish drilling rig in the Baltic sea without crossing the state border.
The Prime Minister stressed the importance of allied support, stating Poland must be assured of a unified response and avoid isolation should the situation escalate.
Recent airspace incursions by Russia have heightened tensions among NATO allies. Estonia reported three Russian fighter jets entered its airspace for approximately twelve minutes on Friday, a claim Russia has disputed.
On September 10, numerous drones flew through Polish airspace during a Russian air raid on Ukraine, prompting Polish and NATO forces to intercept some of the missiles. Tusk stated fragments of 18 drones have been recovered across eastern and central Poland, none of which have been classified as armed or dangerous, though investigations are ongoing.
