Turkey’s KAAN Fighter Jet Secures Landmark Export Deal with Indonesia
Ankara,Turkey – In a monumental achievement for its defense industry,Turkey has signed its first export agreement for the domestically developed National Combat Aircraft,codenamed KAAN. The historic deal, valued at the sale of 48 KAAN fighter jets to Indonesia, marks the largest defense export in the Republic of Turkey’s history.
Deliveries are slated to commence within the next 120 months, signifying a decade-long commitment to equipping Indonesia’s air force with advanced fifth-generation fighter capabilities. This important export is expected to inject significant momentum into Turkey’s defense industry ecosystem and provide considerable economic benefits to the nation.
Haluk Görgün, President of the Defense Industry, expressed his satisfaction with the agreement, calling it “one of the most significant steps of a long-term cooperation.” he highlighted the dedication to surpassing existing global standards, stating, “We are trying to do better than the existing in the world. A 5th generation plane was signed with our Indonesian brothers.”
Görgün further emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts with friendly and allied nations for global peace. “The widespread use of products that will motivate us is what we pay attention to,” he remarked. “We have reached 83 percent in indigenization. These require grate effort. We are happy to achieve the goals given to us.”
The collaboration with Indonesia extends beyond the KAAN fighter jet, with Görgün noting, “We are working in many areas with Indonesia. Ammunition and infrastructure projects contain past records.”
The groundbreaking proclamation was made by Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan via his social media account. The agreement was finalized at the Indo Defense 2025 exhibition held in indonesia, solidifying the nation’s prowess in designing, developing, and producing advanced combat aircraft through its own resources.
