Turkish coup in The Hague

I do not think anyone expected that a coup would be committed in this period of Corona. Tunahan Kuzu, the leader and leader of the political party DENK, reported on March 21 that he will not return as a group leader after the next parliamentary elections. Kuzu, once a descendant of the Labor Party, where he left with his mattie Selçuk Öztürk to co-found a new party for the bicultural (Islamic) voice.

Among other things, DENK pushed for the right to halal slaughter, claimed that the ‘Armenian question’ never took place and openly disgraced dissenting Turkish-Dutch politicians if they did not share this opinion – this even resulted in the duo Kuzu & Öztürk. nickname ‘the long arm of Erdogan’.

Somewhere in that friendship must have been the draft. Because it is none other than Öztürk who has stood at the grave of Kuzu’s political decline, according to articles that HP / De Tijd and NRC Handelsblad devoted to the whole issue. Not the great impact that his political work had on his private life – the reason that Kuzu himself brought out on March 21 – but an extramarital relationship with a partisan was to blame for leaving politics. Nor was it that relationship in itself, but the transgressive behavior that Kuzu would have exhibited towards the woman after breaking it. What should we imagine here? Sexual assault, violence, stalking?

What was the role of ‘mattie’ Öztürk? Kuzu’s behavior would not fit DENK’s core values, it said in the official press statement released last week by political leadership. Is sidelining your ‘mattie’ for your own gain or a core value?

DENK was founded at the time for the realization of ideals: offering a voice to the Islamic constituency, which values norms and values. There are almost 1 million Muslims living in the Netherlands who are potentially DENK voters. They often feel that they are not represented by other political parties in the Netherlands. Öztürk consciously risks this political potential.

And why doesn’t Kuzu catch up Jinek or at On 1 to tell his side of the story? THINK is Kuzu. He is one of the best debaters in the House of Representatives. On Facebook, his supporters even created a hashtag with ‘we won’t let Kuzu go’. Why does Kuzu take the coup committed against him by Öztürk? For years he also fought for his ideals and for his supporters, surely you will not let the doner eat your bread?

On Wednesday, all members of DENK received an email from the party leadership, about a planned members’ meeting in June. Why only then? Members should be getting an online member meeting just now, including to stem further speculation.

“A good friend can be a good enemy,” says an Ethiopian proverb. What does this remind me of? To two best friends who suddenly became each other’s enemies. Power destroys more than you like …
