ANKARA, Oct 27 – RIA Novosti. Ankara condemns publication of cartoons of Turkish leader Tayyip Erdogan in the French magazine Charlie Hebdo and considers them to be the fruits of the “anti-Muslim program” of the President of France Emmanuel MacronFahrettin Altun, head of the communications department of the Turkish presidential administration, said Charlie Hebdo previously published on its cover a caricature of Erdogan amid the crisis in relations between Paris and Ankara. The Turkish leader is shown in the picture half-dressed, sitting in an armchair and holding a can of soft drink in his right hand. With his other hand he lifts the hem of the servant woman’s dress. The caption to the cartoon reads: “Erdogan is very playful in his private life.” He noted that “racist, xenophobic, Islamophobic and anti-Semitic incitements will not be able to provoke Turkey to retaliate.” where an extremist killed a school teacher, and the ensuing reaction of the French authorities, which in Turkey was described as directed against Muslims. The extremist beheaded a history teacher on the evening of October 16 near an educational institution in Conflans-Saint-Honorine near Paris. The attacker was shot dead by police officers in the neighboring commune of Eragny. The murder is associated with an incident at the school where the teacher worked. He reportedly gave a lesson on October 5 that discussed freedom of speech. The teacher showed the cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad published in Charlie Hebdo. Commenting on the tragedy in the suburbs of Paris, Macron said that France would not refuse to publish such cartoons. The French leader also expressed the idea of the need to “free Islam in France from foreign influence” and tighten control over funding for mosques, build “enlightened Islam” in the country. In response, Turkish leader Erdogan said that his French counterpart needed to “heal his psyche.” … France recalled its ambassador from Ankara for consultations after Erdogan’s words. Erdogan: Macron gets up and lies down thinking about me—
“The anti-Muslim program of French President Macron is bearing fruit! Charlie Hebdo has just published a series of so-called offensive images of our president. We condemn this publication’s abhorrent attempt to spread cultural racism and hatred,” Altun wrote in Twitter.
—
He noted that “racist, xenophobic, Islamophobic and anti-Semitic incitements will not be able to provoke Turkey to retaliate.”
–
“This kind of irresponsible and senseless attack on our culture will only breed racism and discrimination. We call on all sane European friends to fight back this kind of primitive cultural racism, intellectual sterility and uncivilized discussion,” Altun added.
