The bid for the country’s rebranding was launched last year when the Turkish president said it “best represents and expresses the culture, civilization and values of the Turkish nation.”
Turkey will submit a formal request to the United Nations and other international organizations to change the way the country’s name is written in English. On Tuesday, May 31, reports in Twitter Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu.
He wrote that he had sent a letter to the UN Secretary-General in which he asked to approve the new spelling of the name of Turkey in foreign languages in the UN member countries as “Türkiye”.
If the request is granted, the name “Türkiye” (“Turkiye”) will be used in international forums and official documents instead of other spellings that were previously common.
As noted by the publication, Anadolu. The minister also specified that goods produced in Turkey will be labeled “Made in Turkiye” instead of “Made in Turkey”.
Previously it was reported that Turkey will not support the entry of Finland and Sweden in NATO. In exchange, she wants them to condemn all Kurdish organizations and lift restrictions on arms sales. But later Finnish President Sauli Niiniste said that his country and Sweden must reach an agreement with Turkey.
