Turkey today criticized the ruling of the European Court of Justice, which allowed companies to ban their employees from wearing Muslim headscarves, the Anatolian Agency reported, quoted by BTA.

“It is unbelievable that fascism is spreading to the courts. This wrong decision is an attempt to ensure the legitimacy of racism,” Turkish Presidency Communications Director Fahrettin Altun wrote on Twitter.

Altun accused Europe of “trying to embrace its dark past” instead of condemning it.

“We condemn this decision, which undermines human dignity,” he said.

According to the ruling of the European Court of Justice, employers may in certain circumstances prohibit their Muslim employees from covering their heads. The court ruled on July 15 in a lawsuit filed on the basis of two complaints from women fired from work in Germany for wearing the hijab.
