Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said that more than 28,000 security forces have been sent to the regions affected by the earthquake.
Several powerful aftershocks of magnitude up to 7.6 occurred on the morning of February 6 in southeastern Turkey. The earthquake also affected the Syrian provinces of Aleppo, Latakia, Hama and Tartus. Later, experts registered three dozen aftershocks.
Hundreds of buildings were destroyed. According to the latest data, the death toll from the earthquake in Turkey has risen to 1651, more than 11 thousand people were injured. In Syria, 538 people were killed, another 1353 were injured.
The earthquake was felt in Lebanon, Iraq, Israel, Georgia, Abkhazia, small aftershocks were recorded in Sochi.
Turkey has a seven-day nationwide mourning for the victims of the disaster, and a three-month state of emergency has been declared in 10 disaster-affected provinces.
