A civilian commercial vessel found an object that looked like a mine this morning. The strait was temporarily closed.

Turkey closed the Bosphorus Strait for navigation due to the discovery of a foreign object in the water area, similar to a mine, reports on Saturday, March 26, the TV channel TRT News.

The Bosphorus is closed for shipping until further notice.

In connection with the investigation, the strait was closed to two-way traffic.

“After the detection of a mine-like object by a civilian commercial vessel, on the morning of March 26, 2022, in the coastal zone of the Bosphorus, underwater defense teams (SAS) were quickly sent to the scene. The mine-like object was taken under guard by SAS teams, and action was taken intervention to neutralize it,” the Turkish Coastal Security Directorate General said in a statement.

The Turkish Navy has previously reported mine danger in the western part of the Black Sea.
