TSE extends precautionary measure to television channels for broadcasting electoral spot

The Supreme Electoral Tribunal extended a precautionary measure to several television channels that broadcast a spot with the symbolism of the New Ideas political party.

On December 1, the TSE issued a precautionary measure where it began a sanctioning process for channels 8 and 10, but this Thursday, it expanded the resolution to the channels: Telecorporación Salvadoreña (channels 2, 4, 6 and 35), Grupo Megavisión (channels 15, 7, 19 and 21), Red Salvadoreña de Medios (channel 12, channel 11 TUTV), Televisión Oriental SA de CV / TVO SA de CV (channel 23), Tecnovisión SA de CV (channel 33), Claro El Salvado (CTE SA DE CV and CTE Telecom Personal SA de CV) Telemovil El Salvador SA de CV (Tigo El Salvador), and SKY El Salvador Sociedad Anónima de Capital Variable (SKY SA de CV)

The highest electoral body in the country initiated a sanctioning process against the aforementioned television channels for the “alleged commission of electoral offenses” provided for in Article 175 of the Electoral Code (EC), which speaks of carrying out early electoral propaganda.

Likewise, the collegiate body ordered the media to report on compliance with the precautionary measure, as well as send a report detailing the natural or legal personnel who hired or scheduled the advertising related to the broadcast of the spot.

He also asked the television channels to identify – in the case that the hiring was through an advertising agency – who was the client who hired the advertising pattern, the hiring period, as well as to detail who was the natural or legal staff who ordered the placement of the advertising pattern.
