Trump’s Pardons: Corruption Fueled by Money and Connections

by Priya Shah – Business Editor

Former DOJ Attorney alleges Trump Campaign Solicited Funds to Cover legal Bills, Despite Claims of Financial Hardship

A former Department of Justice (DOJ) attorney, Allison Oyer, alleges the Trump campaign actively solicited millions in donations under the guise of fighting election fraud, while concurrently suggesting to her that funds would be used to cover Donald Trump’s personal legal bills. Oyer’s claims, made during a recent interview, raise further questions about the financial practices of the former president and his allies following the 2020 election.

Oyer, who served as a trial attorney in the DOJ’s Civil Division, detailed a conversation where a Trump campaign official indicated donations weren’t solely intended for legal challenges to the election results. This revelation comes as Trump faces mounting legal costs across multiple investigations and as his political operation continues to aggressively fundraise from supporters. The allegations suggest a potential misrepresentation to donors, fueling concerns about the ethical and legal boundaries of Trump’s fundraising efforts.

according to Oyer, the conversation occurred shortly after she raised concerns about the restoration of gun rights to actor Mel Gibson, a case she believed was being pushed for political reasons. “After I left the department, the attorney general went ahead and restored his gun rights anyway, and that’s sort of illustrative of what’s going on in the Justice Department right now,” oyer saeid.”Career experts who are applying their knowledge and expertise neutrally are not valued or even wanted in these discussions if they serve as an obstacle to accomplishing the political objectives of the president.” She was subsequently fired.

Oyer’s account aligns with reporting detailing the significant sums raised by the “Official Election Defense Fund” and other related entities in the weeks following the 2020 election. While Trump and his allies repeatedly claimed the funds were dedicated to challenging the election results, subsequent disclosures revealed a ample portion was directed towards other purposes, including legal expenses unrelated to the election.

The Daily Beast reached out to the White House for comment. Spokesperson Abigail Jackson responded by highlighting pardons issued by president Biden, stating, “The only pardon corruption anyone should be talking about is Joe Biden who pardoned and commuted sentences of violent criminals including child killers and mass murderers-and that’s not to mention the proactive pardons he ‘signed’ for his family members like Hunter on his way out the door.”
