Trump’s Hypocrisy: Meyers Skews Sanctions and Foreign Policy

Seth Meyers Skewers Trump‘s Hypocrisy on Foreign Policy: “You First!”

new York, NY – while many late-night hosts are attending the Emmys – where The Late‍ Show with ⁣Stephen Colbert took home a win on Sunday – Seth Meyers didn’t miss a⁣ beat on Monday’s Late Night, turning his sharp wit towards former President Donald Trump’s evolving stance on international leadership.

Meyers highlighted the stark contrast between Trump’s past criticisms of Democratic foreign policy‌ and his current rhetoric. ‌”Trump and the GOP‍ spent years whining that ⁢democrats were supposedly leading‍ from behind, and ‌have now declared that ‍America will be setting the world’s agenda,” Meyers pointed out. “No more waiting for ⁢other countries to act – ‍America acts first and other countries follow us. You got that, world?”

However, the comedian quickly dismantled this tough-talking image, focusing on Trump’s ‍recent pronouncements regarding sanctions against Russia. Trump stated on his Truth Social platform that he’s prepared to impose major sanctions on Russia for violating Polish airspace with drones, but only if all NATO nations concurrently agree⁢ to cease purchasing⁤ Russian oil. As trump put it, he’s “ready to do major Sanctions on Russia when all NATO Nations have agreed, and started, to do the same thing.”

Meyers couldn’t help but mock the apparent reversal. “I thought America was back?” he quipped. “and now you’ll⁣ only act if everyone else‍ does it first?” He then drew a humorous parallel, comparing Trump’s ⁣approach to American foreign policy to the hesitant logic of teenagers: “Trump is using the same logic for american foreign policy ‍that eighth graders use for smoking pot ‌in the local school parking lot – ‘I’ll do it first if you do it first.’ ‘No way, man, you first!’ ‘OK, let’s do it ⁣at the same time. I’m ready to go when you are, just say when.'”

The segment underscores a recurring theme in Meyers’ monologues: the perceived inconsistencies and contradictions within Trump’s political messaging.
