Netanyahu Signals Approval of Trump‘s Gaza Plan, Hamas Voices Strong Objections
JERUSALEM – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has indicated openness to a 20-point plan proposed by former U.S. President Donald Trump to end the war in Gaza, while Hamas has sharply criticized the proposal as aligning too closely wiht Israeli objectives.
The White House published Trump’s plan, which outlines a vision for a “deradicalized adn free area of terrorism” in Gaza that “will not represent a threat to its neighbors” and will be “redeveloped for the benefit of the population of Gaza.” A key component of the plan stipulates the release of hostages held by Hamas within 72 hours of acceptance – either alive or deceased – in exchange for Israel freeing 250 Palestinian prisoners.
French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed Trump’s commitment to ending the war and securing the release of hostages, stating on X (formerly Twitter), “Hamas has no other choice than to immediately release all the hostages and follow this plan.” Macron added France is ready to contribute to building “lasting peace in the region, based on the solution of the two states.”
However, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, a militant group fighting alongside Hamas in Gaza, condemned the plan as “a recipe for continuous aggression against the Palestinian people,” asserting Israel is attempting to achieve through the plan what it has failed to accomplish militarily. The group labeled the proposal “a formula to set the region ablaze.”
The plan was published on September 29, 2025, according to White House documentation.
