Lawyer Robert Costello was due to appear before the jury behind closed doors at the request of Mr Trump’s lawyers
Workers erected barricades around a Manhattan court on Monday as New York City braces for a possible impeachment of Donald Trump over an alleged bribe payment to a star in the porn during his 2016 campaign.
The barricades were erected ahead of what would be the first-ever criminal case against a US president, two days after the latter urged his followers on social media to protest what he said was his impending arrest.
According Politico, a grand jury is expected to indict Mr. Trump late Monday or Wednesday for arranging payments to porn star Stormy Daniels. Mr Trump, who is seeking the Republican nomination for the White House again in 2024, predicted he would be arrested on Tuesday.
But on Monday, the grand jury still appeared to be gathering evidence before deciding whether a prosecution was warranted.
According to a source close to the case, attorney Robert Costello was scheduled to appear before the jury behind closed doors at the request of Mr. Trump’s attorneys because he may provide information that could challenge Michael Cohen’s earlier testimony, Mr. Trump’s former lawyer. The investigation led by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg is one of many legal challenges Mr. Trump faces. His office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
