US President Donald Trump’s legal team filed an application with the US Supreme Court on Sunday. In a recent attempt to overturn election results for alleged voter fraud, calls are being made for several Pennsylvania sentences to be overturned.
Trump’s attorney Rudy Giuliani announced this next step in a public statement. He alleged that the Pennsylvania Supreme Court “amended the Pennsylvania Postal Vote Act immediately before and after the 2020 presidential election” on three counts.
The appointment follows numerous legal processes in major swing states such as Pennsylvania and Georgia. Trump and his team spoke of massive voter fraud in these and other states that should have led to Joe Biden’s victory. This was certified by the Electoral College earlier this month.
According to Giuliani, Pennsylvania’s amendment to the law constitutes a “violation of Article II of the US Constitution.” These decisions “undermined the protection of the Pennsylvania legislature against postal voting fraud,” the statement said.
Actual decisions include “the ban on election officials,” checking signatures on postal votes “during election review on election day,” and “contesting the elimination of campaigners’ right to challenge postal votes during election review for fake signatures and other irregularities.”
The legal team also claims that the “right of campaign teams to watch the postal ballot review” only means that observers are allowed to be “in the room” but cannot properly verify the information because they are too far away.
Thus, “legal requirements that voters properly sign, address and date postal votes” were not enforced due to the decision of the Supreme Court of the US state.
Trump’s legal team is calling for the electorate who campaigned for Joe Biden to be fired and the Pennsylvania General Assembly to elect substitutes.
With the US Congress due to meet on Jan. 6 to confirm the votes of the electoral college, Trump’s lawyers are demanding an expedited process and a response from the Supreme Court within days.
As of today, Biden received 306 votes in Electoral College, compared to Trump’s 232 votes. The US state of Pennsylvania contributes 20 votes.
