The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has refused to guarantee that he will contribute to a peaceful transition of power if he is defeated in the next presidential election. The position, never heard from the mouth of another American President in the country’s modern history, could deepen divisions just six weeks before the elections, and was only opposed by a prominent figure in the Republican Party.
