Trump Promises Help: ‘Bringing Republicans Back to Power’ | Abroad

“We met tonight to talk about the future of the Republican Party and what we need to do to help our candidates win,” Trump allegedly said, according to Reuters news agency, which has recognized the former president’s speech. “I stand here tonight with full confidence that in 2022 we will take back the House (of Representatives) and reclaim the Senate. And then in 2024, a Republican candidate will conquer the White House. ”

Whether Trump means himself by the last sentence was not clear. He said earlier that he could not rule out his running for president again. Last year, Trump (74) lost the election to Democrat Joe Biden (78). Trump still insists that profit has been ‘stolen’. He therefore repeated those unproven claims about fraud again in his speech. He also sneered at powerful Senate Republican Mitch McConnell, The Washington Post reports.

Trump, who has largely remained in the shadows since his departure from the White House and his Twitter ban following the Capitol storm, also attacked top American epidemiologist Anthony Fauci in his speech. According to an audience, Trump would have said that Fauci was only praised for his critical attitude towards the then president.

The former real estate man reminded audience of who developed the corona vaccine (“someone said they should call it Trumpcine”), and praised his own government’s corona policy, without reference to the more than half million US corona deaths. In the US, some 115 million people have now been vaccinated at least once.

Candidates

Within the Republican Party there are more candidates who may want to take on Biden in 3.5 years, such as former foreign minister Mike Pompeo and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. But names like Nikki Haley and Ted Cruz also sound emphatic.

Before that, a vote will be taken in November 2022 on all 435 seats in the House of Representatives (lower house) and on 34 of the 100 seats in the Senate (upper house). Particularly for the Democrats, who now have a slight preponderance in both chambers, much is at stake. If they lose, it will be difficult for Biden to implement his policy. He announced last week that he wanted to make the gun laws stricter, but the Democrats need more broad political support for that.
