Trump ends back and forth: press conference takes place

No more daily appearances?

As more and more of his advisors and ministers had pushed Trump to forego the daily press conferences, there had been no press conferences on the work of the government task force at the weekend.

At the weekend, the president then questioned the press conferences: journalists would only ask him “hostile questions” and report untrue. The press conferences are “not worth the time and effort”. However, it was unclear whether this statement would be followed by concrete steps, such as deleting the press conferences or changing the format.

Monday was also canceled

The press conference should also be canceled this Monday. But after obviously hours of violent back and forth behind the scenes of the White House, it was decided to stop them. So it takes place at 11 p.m. Central European Time. Trump’s favorite topic is: the reopening of the economy.

Criticism of campaign appearances

The daily information should actually inform the public about news about the pandemic and the fight against the corona virus. In addition to Trump, government experts like the respected virologist keep appearing Anthony Fauci or the doctor Deborah Birx that coordinates the work of the Corona Expert Group.
Critics, however, accuse Trump of repeatedly giving false or misleading statements at press conferences and misusing the dates as a substitute for campaign events. Not only does the President always praise his own work; he also regularly attacks political opponents and journalists present.
Trump continued his attacks on media online on Monday. “Fake news, the enemy of the people,” wrote the president in the short message service Twitter. There has never been such a “mean and hostile” press in US history as it is now. Trump has been attacking media that has been critical of him since he took office three and a half years ago.
