Trump criticizes Democratic leader, seen at hairdresser without mask

WASHINGTON | Donald Trump on Wednesday criticized the leader of the Democrats in the United States Congress Nancy Pelosi for going to a hairdressing salon in San Francisco, where indoor treatments are prohibited because of COVID-19, and for removing her mask.

“A stunt”, defended the President of the House of Representatives, who claims to have followed the instructions of the hairdresser.

Nancy Pelosi is one of the pet peeves of the Republican president and his supporters. She regularly hits the billionaire for his handling of the pandemic that has claimed more than 180,000 lives in the United States, urging him to listen to scientists and encourage the wearing of masks.

“Real men wear masks,” the powerful “Speaker” had launched in June in the face of procrastination from Donald Trump, who only appeared in public wearing one in July.

But surveillance footage shows Nancy Pelosi moving from room to room in a barbershop on Monday, without a mask. However, treatments are still prohibited indoors in San Francisco, where they have just been re-authorized outdoors only.

“Mad Nancy Pelosi gets destroyed for opening a hairdressing salon, while all the others are closed, and for not wearing a mask, while she gives lessons all the time to all the others”, tweeted the President of the United States using one of the mocking nicknames he is fond of.

“I take responsibility for trusting what the neighborhood barber shop I have visited many times over the years was telling me,” the Democrat told reporters. “It turns out that it was actually a set-up. I take responsibility for having fallen into a trap ”.

“This salon proposed to the Speaker to come on Monday and told her that it was authorized by the city to have one client at a time. The Speaker respected the rules as they were presented to her by this establishment, ”his deputy chief of staff, Drew Hammill, told AFP.

“The Speaker always wears a mask and respects local guidelines on COVID,” he added.
