WASHINGTON – House Democrats on the Oversight Committee Monday released an image of a note allegedly penned by former President Donald Trump to convicted sex offender jeffrey Epstein, contained within a “birthday book” compiled for Epstein in 2003.The release follows a legal summons issued last month to the executors of Epstein’s estate for documents related to the book.
the note, accompanied by a drawing of a woman’s body, features a handwritten message from “Donald” to “Jeffrey” discussing a “fantastic secret” they shared. The exchange reads, in part: “A pal is a wonderful thing. Happy Birthday – and may every day be another wonderful secret.”
The White House disputed the authenticity of the note, stating, “President Trump did not draw this picture, and he did not sign it.” White House Deputy Chief of Staff Taylor budowich posted images of Trump’s signature on X, formerly Twitter, claiming defamation and calling on News Corp to issue a retraction.
The Wall Street Journal reported in July that Ghislaine Maxwell, an accomplice of Epstein, created the birthday book. It contained submissions from various associates of Epstein, including the alleged note from Trump, who was friends wiht Epstein at the time. Trump has stated he distanced himself from Epstein in the early 2000s after Epstein allegedly poached employees from his Mar-a-Lago resort.
Robert garcia, the ranking Democrat on the Oversight committee, stated,”President Trump called the Epstein investigation a hoax and claimed that his birthday note didn’t exist. Now we certainly know that Donald Trump was lying and is doing everything he can to cover up the truth.”
Epstein was first criminally indicted in 2006 in Florida on a state felony charge of solicitation of prostitution and died by suicide in a federal prison in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. The release of the note adds to ongoing scrutiny surrounding Trump’s past relationship with Epstein.
