SHREWSBURY,Pa. — A tractor-trailer carrying hot dogs experienced a mechanical failure on Interstate 83 Friday morning, resulting in a significant spill of the processed meat products across the roadway. The incident, which occurred just north of the Maryland state line as morning rush hour concluded, caused temporary traffic disruptions in both directions.

The unexpected cargo spill involved a truck that reportedly suffered an unspecified mechanical issue, leading it to collide with a passenger vehicle. The impact caused the trailer to rupture against a concrete divider, scattering itS contents. Emergency responders, including the Shrewsbury Fire Company, were dispatched to the scene. Fire Chief Brad Dauberman described the cleanup as a challenging task, noting that hot dogs that have fallen onto the road are considered unsalvageable and require disposal. A front-end loader was utilized to collect the spilled hot dogs and load them into a dump truck. Four individuals sustained injuries that were not considered life-threatening, according to authorities. The incident highlighted the logistical challenges of cleaning up large-scale food spills on major transportation routes.
