Tropical wave 13 is now a tropical storm, named Laura

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has named the former Tropical Wave 13, now storm, Laura. The phenomenon has intensified.

As was feared, tropical wave 13 strengthened before reaching the West Indian arc, so that the National hurricane center (NHC) named the phenomenon, which became a tropical storm. Her name is now Laura.

Even before the rise of the phenomenon, meteorological vigilance bulletins have already been taken by Météo France Antilles-Guyane for Saint-Martin, Saint-Barthélemy, Guadeloupe and Martinique.

According to the NHC, the effects of Storm Laura are possible in parts of Northern Leeward Island, the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, the Bahamas and the Island of the Turks and Caicos, starting on the day of this Friday.
The American forecasting body warns of possible mudslides and flash floods, in urban areas, in the Caribbean islands concerned. That, until Sunday.

Details of the phenomenon’s long-term trajectory and intensity forecasts are more uncertain than usual, as the system could move over portions of the Greater Antilles during the weekend.
The system could bring heavy precipitation and strengthening winds to part of Hispaniola Island, Cuba, the Bahamas and Florida between the weekend and early next week.

Laura’s progress and attitude are clearly one to watch over the next few days.
