Emergency teams tried to repair the damaged infrastructure and help the tens of thousands of people affected by the storm.
Ana reached the mainland in Madagascar on Monday, then raged in Mozambique and Malawi.
Rescuers and authorities in these countries are still assessing the extent of the damage, but in the meantime Indian a new storm has formed in the ocean.
Madagascar, where the death toll has risen to 48 people, declared a state of national disaster on Thursday night.
Mozambique has reported 18 deaths and 11 in Malawi.
The remnants of tropical storm Ana have crossed Zimbabwe, but no deaths have been reported in that country.
Tens of thousands of homes have been damaged in the three worst affected countries. Some houses collapsed in heavy rain, trapping victims in rubble.
Flooded rivers washed away bridges and covered the fields, drowning livestock and destroying the livelihoods of rural families.
In Madagascar, 130,000 people left their homes. In the capital, Antananarivo schools and gyms were converted into temporary shelters.
In northern and central Mozambique, Ana demolished 10,000 homes and dozens of schools and hospitals, and demolished power lines.
Mozambique and international meteorological services have warned that a storm “Batsirai” has formed over the Indian Ocean, which could reach land in the coming days.
The Malawi government has declared a state of natural disaster. Most of the country was left without electricity at the beginning of the week, flooding generating stations.
