“Troll 2” Sequel Teaser Unleashed by Netflix

The teaser trailer for “Troll 2” has arrived, promising a bigger, bolder continuation of the hit Norwegian monster film, a major success for Netflix. This highly anticipated sequel will dive deeper into Nordic folklore, with familiar faces and exciting new creatures.

Familiar Faces Return

The upcoming film brings back favorite characters, including Ine Marie Wilmann as Nora, Kim Falck as Andreas, and Mads Sjøgård Pettersen as Captain Kris. New to the adventure is Sara Khorami, playing Marion. The story promises to be packed with danger and adventure.

The official synopsis teases a perilous mission: “When a dangerous new troll is awakened, unleashing devastation across Norway, beloved adventurers Nora, Andreas and Captain Kris are thrust into their most perilous mission yet. To stop the creature’s ruthless rampage, they must enlist new allies and delve into the country’s ancient history, searching for answers. As the clock ticks and the troll’s path of destruction grows wider, our heroes face impossible odds in their fight to save their homeland from falling into darkness.”

Director’s Vision

The director, Roar Uthaug, who also directed “Tomb Raider” and “The Wave,” is back at the helm, reuniting with writer Espen Aukan and producers Espen Horn and Kristian Strand Sinkerud of Motion Blur.

“I am beyond proud of how audiences around the globe connected with the first ‘Troll’ film far beyond what we imagined,”

Roar Uthaug, Director

The original “Troll” became Netflix’s most-watched non-English film, amassing over 103 million views. The success of the original underscores the popularity of non-English content, which has seen a surge in viewership; streaming services have seen an increase in non-English viewing by 30% in the last year (Statista 2024).

Expanding the Mythos

Uthaug shared details of the sequel. “Well, first of all we are introducing new and even more destructive trolls — and yes, that is plural. And we get to revisit our beloved cast from the first movie, though you might not find them where you would expect them to be, as well as some enchanting new faces that join in on the action. But I’m really excited about the way we delve deeper into our Nordic folklore and Norse history to expand on the myths of the trolls and their history.”

Ine Marie Wilmann expressed her excitement: “Diving into the ‘Troll’ adventure was incredibly fun the first time around, and we were absolutely amazed by its global success. It is with great respect and excitement that I embarked on creating the sequel. I hope and believe that people will enjoy more of what they appreciated last time. We certainly had a fantastic time making ‘Troll 2,’ and we are really looking forward to sharing it with the world.”

The production plans to ramp up the spectacle: “We have definitely upped our game when it comes to the troll sequences and the sheer scale of the movie,” Uthaug noted. He added that the trolls will have their challenges, “the army has also had time to prepare and create new weapons to fight these creatures.”

Adventure and Action

Uthaug hinted at a more expansive adventure component, describing sequences with “almost Indiana Jones-like adventure with ancient puzzles our heroes have to solve to stop their country from falling into darkness.”

Producers Horn and Sinkerud are optimistic: “It’s always daunting to do a sequel but we truly feel that this time, we’ve created an even better, bigger, funnier, and more adventurous film — if that’s even possible.”

“Troll 2” is scheduled to launch on December 1 on Netflix.
